Connecting to ChatGPT Apps

Connect your Promptsy vault to ChatGPT to access your prompts directly in conversations.

Prerequisites​

  • ChatGPT account (any paid plan: Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu)
  • A Promptsy account (any tier)

Step 1: Enable Developer Mode​

For full MCP support, enable developer mode:

  1. Open ChatGPT
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Navigate to Apps & Connectors (or Connectors)
  4. Scroll to Advanced settings
  5. Toggle Developer mode on

Developer mode is required for full MCP functionality including all tools.

Step 2: Add Promptsy App​

  1. In ChatGPT, go to Settings
  2. Navigate to Apps & Connectors (or Connectors)
  3. Click Create (or Add Integration)
  4. Enter the following details:

  1. Click Create

Step 3: Authorize​

  1. ChatGPT will redirect you to Promptsy
  2. Log in if not already logged in
  3. Review the permissions requested:
    • prompts:read - View your prompts
    • prompts:write - Save new prompts
    • account:read - View tier and credits
  4. Click Approve
  5. You'll be redirected back to ChatGPT

Step 4: Start Using Promptsy​

Once connected, you can use Promptsy tools in your conversations:

Access Promptsy in Chat​

  1. Click the + button in the message composer
  2. Select More
  3. Choose Promptsy from available apps

Browse Prompts​

"Show my Promptsy library"

ChatGPT will display your prompts in an interactive widget.

Save Prompts​

"Save this to Promptsy as 'Email Template'"

ChatGPT will create a new prompt in your vault.

Search Public Prompts​

"Find public Promptsy prompts about data analysis"

Browse the community without additional authentication.

Widget Features​

When ChatGPT displays your prompts, you'll see:

  • Tab navigation - All, Recent, Starred
  • Prompt cards - Title, description, preview
  • Copy button - Copy to clipboard
  • Variable count - For prompts with {{variables}}

Troubleshooting​

App not showing​

  1. Verify developer mode is enabled in settings
  2. Refresh the ChatGPT page
  3. Try adding the app again

Authorization failed​

  1. Make sure you're logged into Promptsy
  2. Check that popup blockers aren't preventing the OAuth flow
  3. Try in an incognito/private window

Tools not working​

Ask ChatGPT explicitly:

"Use the Promptsy browse_prompts tool to show my prompts"

Revoking Access​

To disconnect:

  1. In ChatGPT: Settings → Apps & Connectors → Remove Promptsy
  2. In Promptsy: Settings → Connected Apps → Revoke ChatGPT
